The GrateDrain was designed with large dual chambers that directs ground water from beneath the basement floor and the wall/footing joint to the sump liner. The GrateDrain's ability to accept ground water through large passageways (punch holes) from either direction is a powerful advantage when compared to other drainage systems. Other drainage systems only allow water to enter from one direction or allow water to pass right through their drainage pipe from the wall/footing joint and bring ground water under the basement slab instead of directing it to the sump liner (see Figure 1).
Dual Chamber isolates iron bacteria
The isolation between the GrateDrain dual chambers prevent cross-contamination of iron bacteria. Our research has taught us that most iron bacteria problems are located in one area of the basement. For example, the iron bacteria may only come in the wall/footing joint and not from under the slab or it may originate from under the slab and not from the wall/footing joint. We believe that most other systems actually allow cross-contamination of iron bacteria colonies to the whole basement. The GrateDrain was designed to isolate an iron bacteria problem so it is not spread throughout the basement.
Assembly and Installation

The GrateDrain design allows the installer to snap the vertical sections together with each separate top and bottom walls. Once completed, the GrateDrain trak system will not come apart.
GrateDrain protects the entire basement. The GrateDrain is installed on the perimeter below the basement floor. The corners have accessible covers to allow a service technician to flush out the system if needed. GrateDrain cover ports are actually a 90 degree turn which actually allows the water to flow faster.
GrateDrain's design allows the installer to custom build each system right at the job site. Once built, it becomes a one-piece trak system with virtually no joints. The GrateDrain is stronger than any other drainage system.
GrateDrain is designed for closed sub-floor drainage systems only. We recommend that a wall vapor barrier like TuffShield, HD TuffShield, or ThermalShield be installed along with Flexi-Flang. We recommend surrounding the GrateDrain with 3/4" crushed stone.

GrateDrain is an extruded polyvinyl chloride (pvc) which is made up of four (4) foot long horizontal wall pieces (top and bottom are the same) and 120 foot coils of vertical wall sections (outside walls with holes and the interior track without). GrateDrain is 2 inches high by 4 inches wide when fully assembled. It's wall thickness is 0.080 thick (other systems are 0.045-0.055). GrateDrain weighs approximately 0.67 pounds per foot.
